Wooden Patio Furniture

Wooden Patio FurnitureIs wooden patio furniture durable?

We're shopping for patio furniture, and my husband and I are in disagreement on what to do. He wants to put a metal because he swears they are the best and most durable and all you have to do to take care of them is repaint them. I think that rust would be a problem and would really not eager to remove any rust before repainting. In addition, I do not really like the look of most metal sets ... and those I do are very expensive.

I like the look of natural wood games, but do not know much about taking care of them. The wooden sets usually all they should be oiled occasionally to keep it looking Nice. Some care tips or tales of personal experience would be useful.

pine furniture or wicker is not resistant to weathering for long without a good coat of paint.
Teak, cedar / redwood or ipe (a hardwood Brizilian used for bridges and maybe furniture) is naturally resistant to weather and insects, although these should be oiled once a year or more.

As for metal, it will also depend on the type of metal used. Extruded aluminum will never be the rust because it is aluminum. And as it is extruded, it is stronger than the beach chairs and research much more enjoyable.

We powder coated steel which is steel with powder coated baked to help chip or no blurring. I expect to sit on the porch with no problem for the next 10 years, the fabric may be another story.

So, either wood or metal can be beautiful and weatherproof, but try not to go too cheap and your furniture will last longer.
Enjoy shopping around!

I like the look of patio furniture metal, but I would not do it for the simple reason that when it is hot and sunny, the metal becomes too hot to sit without a seat cover and you can burn forearms resting against the table edge. Sometimes they are very decorative, with lots of rollers and holes, they can be a bit of a pain in the position of small things on them like salt / pepper pots, etc. ..
They are durable - and you can repaint them - and you can even get a set of rust and sand them ... but I would not buy a game - I'm with you and prefer wood.

About those of wood

I bought a set of cheap wood and the following year, they were all warped and no good. The following year, I bought another game (a bargain ebay) and they came oiled. They were OK and I sprayed protective oil on them, etc. .. but they have the silver gray color after a year out ... I do not think that the protective oil that I bought was very protective.

However, on the head, my parents bought a love seat as much wood and it was barely covered in the winter and still awaits a great / almost new. I really think you should go for a good quality wood has been properly protected and not go for a cheap game (or a year or two that you intend to buy another batch!).

Good luck

Wood is much more durable than plastic, especially if you varnish or seal. You're right about the rust, nobody likes it, and it is certainly happen. You can also paint the wood and it adds another layer of protection.

On the door of furniture depends on several factors. Climate is one. Wood in a very dry climate will last. In a climate of high humidity or wet it can start to go wrong in a year or two. How well you protect the wood from moisture can also be a factor so that the wood used. Some woods like cedar, redwood and cypress will last longer than pine (unless it is pressure treated).

Metal can also be a problem unless it has a very good powder coating on this. Then it will last much longer. Plastic is under attack by UV rays and other atmospheric conditions.

If it were me, I'd go for the metal more expensive set with a powder coating and a good warranty.
