Looking to install a ceiling fan in a covered patio in my yard, but wanted to know if a ceiling fan will work or do I buy / use a ceiling fan designated for outdoor use only.

The blades are made to look like wood but are a resin material and housing for the engine is a bit different from my fans inside. I think you would be smart to buy one that is made to be outside because they are designed to manage time, condensation, humidity, temperature variations, etc. Mine was only $ 50 in Home Depot. I got on clearance at the end of last season and he withstood the rainy season, thus, does not rust and it looks like new.

Depending on where you live. My parents-installed 6 on their covered back deck and now have 6 fans distorted because of the moisture in the air. We live in the south so it gets wet. I would go ahead and pay a little more fans and get outdoors. We installed two indoor / outdoor and the fans have never had a problem. You can get them at Home Depot for a reasonable price.
