Outdoor Treehouse

Outdoor TreehouseWhich wood for outdoor porch in northern Ontario, treated or cedar?

I want to buy a playset for the backyard of a cabin in the trees, which would be the advantages or disadvantages for the treated vs. cedar?

Go with the cedar. Bugs usually infest and oils work well in the elements. Over his safe. Cedar shingles are used outside of homes to protect against weather and insects.

Treated wood is full of chemicals, some of these chemicals are highly carcinogenic. I wouldnt want me playing on the stuff. When you work with him you supposed to wear gloves.

Edit:
Thepoosy:
The do children need to suck the wood, they "ll chemicals on their hands and rubbing your eyes or bite their nails or lunch without washing. Who `s to say they wont get a splinter, he 'll act essentially as a hypodermic needle to release in their skin. And there are termites and insects long horns in the north here ... both wood pests.

If you want the playset to last, then choose treaties, but if you want it to be one less of a safety hazard, then choose cedar. Personally, I would go with cedar.

ok .... First the advantages of both .... Cedar is used primarily because of its natural insecticide. Bugs do not like it. The benefits of treated wood is that it can hold up to the elements much better than untreated wood. There is nothing wrong with the treated wood as the chemicals, unless your child sucks ..... wood or eat, or something very unlikely like that. As a guy who loves the woods and did it for half my life, for your pourpose, I recommend treated lumber. Since you live in Northern Ontario, you have to deal with cold temprature year to year. People who live in your area have had to deal with the wood eating insects as I am in Florida. They must cope with extreme temperatures. Thus, the right choice for you would be treated wood. It will last much longer than cedar. Do not worry be toxic. Make sure your children have been ingesting the treated wood, and they will be well.
