Garden Scoot

Garden ScootHow can I stop foxes using my garden as a toilet?

I live in urban areas of London and foxes have recently taken to using the patio in my backyard as a toilet. Is there a "humane" way to discourage them from defecating there (up to 3 juicy pieces of each night!). I also have a child so that any deterrent "should be child-friendly too.

Foxes use faeces to mark their territory, so the stools are always left in conspicuous places, eg on a compost heap or on garden walls. Excessive fouling is often due to immature foxes attempting to break their territories or where several foxes are competing for a vacant territory. Once a fox has established a route through your garden, it can be very difficult to stop.

The most likely reason for a fox to enter your property is in search of food, then removing the food source will reduce the attraction for the fox.
* Keep garbage in closed containers, NOT plastic bags.
* Only the morning of your garbage collection.
* Do not leave food for other animals, eg cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.
* Be extremely careful when you put food to feed the birds.

A range of products are available in garden centers, hardware and DIY stores. Preventives, you can try a suitable animal repellent. 2 Sealants are approved for use against foxes are the following:
* Fox, based on oil-bone, and * Scoot, containing ammonium sulfate aluminum. You can buy a neutralizing fragrance called CAT OFF. This product reduces and neutralizes odors left by the fox's feces or urine.

Sounds like it is a message for other foxes Sniffing!
Have you tried Orange / Lemon Peel on the lawn!
