How do I build a retaining wall at low prices? My little money and need a wall 3 feet by 15 feet. Looks are not important and it should last a few years while the roots settle in my yard. anyone advice?
You said that a retaining wall, it will be successful? Normally, a footer for a retaining wall should extend 2 "from each side of the block you ask, for example 8x16x8 block must have a 12" low-end and the depth is determined by the height. To pay off a 15 foot or 8 inches deep should not take a lot of concrete, I figure about 16 pounds 80 bags, then you will need the vertical rebar every 4 feet and rebar in foot. Then lay your block on the footer, like you'll need 4 courses and a course of 8x16x8 4x16x8, if about 60 blocks and mortar courses.
Should not cost much more than it is a little work.
Build a wall with stones and earth. Ask each course of rock, one at a time while filling the cracks and packing earth you go. Use the dirt like a mason uses mortar. It will be attractive. We use this technique often landscape "level" of a court also strongly inclined. You can create up to 3 or 4 feet in height as you backfill the area behind the wall. To minimize erosion during heavy rainfall, you can plant vines or some type of ground cover. Surprisingly, the erosion is not a crawl as expected.
Old tires are a pleasant work. Overlap simular work brick.
Or lay shade cloth / fabric for landscaping on a slope of 45 degrees from the ground, then by stones and / or wood chips.
